Dream Con Spotlights Women Shaping the Gaming Industry

Blog

We use Women’s History Month as an occasion to recognize the creators, innovators, and leaders whose endeavors persistently mold culture across different fields. Women play a crucial role in today’s influential entertainment sector, gaming, not just as consumers but also as developers, business leaders, and community shapers who propel the industry. This year, we're highlighting three inspiring women for their impactful advancements in gaming.

Momo Pixel

At the intersection of art, identity, and gaming culture, Momo Pixel has built something uniquely hers. Momo’s lively pixel art and dynamic online personality have earned her a substantial following, achieved by her distinct style combining retro aesthetics with current gaming discussions and lifestyle material. Her creations frequently pay homage to classic game visuals, but with a modern twist, establishing her as a prominent figure among indie and online creators.

Momo’s influence extends beyond content creation. Through collaborations with brands and gaming communities on artwork, streams, and digital experiences, she established herself as a cultural connector, bridging nostalgia and innovation in ways that appeal to fans who enjoy a blend of nostalgia and innovation. Authenticity and creativity define Momo Pixel, a beacon in a new wave of gaming influencers changing the way people connect with games and their surrounding culture.

Did you know? Pixel is the creator of Hair Nah, an 8-bit travel game about a Black woman who is tired of people touching her hair.

Margo Jordan

You don’t always need a console or controller for gaming innovation. The principles that make games compelling, including challenge, progression, and meaningful reward, have the potential to transform learning, confidence, and personal growth when applied beyond entertainment. Entrepreneur Margo Jordan recognized that potential and built something around it.

Jordan is the founder of Enrichly, a gamified learning platform designed to help young people develop emotional intelligence, resilience, and self-confidence through interactive lessons and digital tools. Drawing on credentials that include an MBA and participation in the Google for Startups Founder Academy and the Black Founders Fund, Jordan built Enrichly with a clear purpose: to equip the next generation with the life skills they need to thrive. Her work shows how gaming concepts can impact industries outside of entertainment by using game-inspired systems for personal growth.

Did you know? Margo Jordan is among the less than 2% of Black Women to raise over $2M in venture capital.

Joelle Silverio

Every world a player steps into, every system that shapes how a game feels to play, begins with the vision and technical and creative expertise of designers and engineers. Joelle Silverio  is one of the talented professionals building those experiences. Over the course of her career, she has contributed to major titles including SMITE, Killing Floor 2, and Battlefield 2042: Portal, applying her expertise as both a game designer and software engineer to create gameplay systems that define how players interact with virtual environments.

Serving as a judge for the International Game Developers Association Scholars program, Silverio actively supports the next wave of creators and champions diversity and inclusion in the gaming industry. Her career exemplifies the increasing influence women have in defining the future of gaming’s technology and creativity.

Did you know? Joelle Silverio is the first African-American female game designer to drive the design of an AAA game, with her work on Killing Floor 2 for Tripwire Interactive.

As we observe Women’s History Month, the contributions of Momo Pixel, Margo Jordan, and Joelle Silverio underscore that gaming is a global cultural force, built on creativity, technology, and community, and not simply a form of entertainment. More people are now empowered to create, lead, and succeed in the industry thanks to their work.
