Press & Public Relations
The Press and Public Relations Department assists with building and maintaining the positive public image and reputation of Dream Con. This department serves as Dream Con’s liaison to the media and press. Roles within this department entail a wide range of responsibilities from overseeing all PR activities, preparing press releases, communicating with media contacts, organizing press conferences and interviews, and monitoring media coverage of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Research and compile list of media outlets
- Writing, preparing, and distributing articles, press releases, pitch letters, and feature ideas
- Develop PR campaigns
- Reaching out to media outlets (journalists, and other media contacts) by phone or email to get them interested in the organization.
- Handling inquiries from journalists and other media contacts via telephone calls, email and written correspondence
- Review and update Crisis Management Plan as necessary
- Monitor media coverage of the organization and prepare regular evaluation reports
- Advise senior staff members on written responses (speeches, public statements, etc.) to the media
- Staying proactive in times of crises such as writing media statements, following the crisis plan, and staying in contact with the media
- Proof-read, and if necessary, re-write media statements
- Organizing PR events such as interviews and press conferences, and if necessary, serve as the spokesperson for the organization
- Meet journalists and other media contacts to foster good relations with the media
- Review, provide feedback, and edit all internal and external documents, policies, etc.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. graphic design, marketing) and maintain open communication with senior management
Requirements:
- Awareness of the media’s different audiences and sensitivity to how they are addressed and work with them most effectively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Great attention to detail
- Understanding of public perception and marketing
- Willingness to learn and handle multiple responsibilities
- Works well and collaborate with team
- Relevant experience and/or degree in public relations, media, journalism, communications (preferred not required)
