Dream Con Celebrates Game Changers in Sports

Blog

This Women’s History Month, Dream Con is highlighting women who are dominating in spaces where representation hasn’t always been guaranteed. These athletes are building legacies in real time and inspiring the next generation to do the same.

Brehanna Daniels

Brehanna Daniels made history as the first Black woman to serve as a tire changer in a premier NASCAR series, breaking barriers in one of motorsports' most physically demanding roles. Her presence in the pit challenges long-standing norms and opens doors for more women of color in racing.

Before entering NASCAR, Daniels was a collegiate athlete at Norfolk State University, where she played point guard for the team. That foundation is often credited as the “key ingredient" to her success in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program.

Beyond her role on race day, Daniels is an advocate for diversity in motorsports. She uses her platform to inspire young women to pursue careers in spaces where they’ve traditionally been overlooked. In 2020, Daniels was honored at the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Awards, where she received the Crew Member award.

Did You Know? Daniels was recruited to the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program in her senior year of college, having no background in the racing scene.

Laila Edwards

Laila Edwards is skating her way into history as one of the exciting young talents in women’s ice hockey. This past winter at the 2026 Winter Olympics, she became a name to watch on the international stage.

As a Black woman in a sport that has historically lacked diversity, Edwards is helping reshape the image of hockey. Every goal, assist, and game she plays contributes to a broader cultural shift, one that welcomes more players from all backgrounds.

After making history in Milan with Team USA, Edwards helped the Wisconsin Badgers secure their ninth national championship. Edwards represents the future of hockey, and it’s looking brighter than ever.

Did You Know? Edwards made history as one of the first Black women to play for Team USA in an international ice hockey competition.

Trinity Rodman

Trinity Rodman’s speed, technical skill, and approach to the game have taken the soccer world by storm. Playing in the National Women’s Soccer League as a forward for the Washington Spirit, Rodman has earned accolades that many spend their whole careers chasing. She was the second overall pick by Spirit in 2021 and the youngest drafted in the NWSL at just 18 years old. And, Rodman is no stranger to the international stage, scoring three goals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the US won gold.

Off the pitch, Rodman is part of a new generation of athletes using their voice and visibility to drive social change, promote equity, and inspire the next generation, particularly through her work with Adidas and youth empowerment initiatives.

Did You Know? Trinity Rodman became the youngest player ever drafted into the NWSL, and one of the highest-paid rookies in league history at the time.
